gathering moss

We started off strong with the pilot and immediately went down the tubes! It's almost entirely Troy's fault.
1.2 Credit Where Credit's Due
Score: 6
Characters: 1
Logan (+1)
Cliff (+1)
Troy (-1)
Guest stars: 1
Paris Hilton (+1 and -1)
Paris Hilton's pink vespa (+1)
Paris's presence in this episode is blursed at best. But her vespa is 100% upside.
Plot relevance: 3/5
Though mostly this episode doesn't focus on Lilly, we do get the important information that she ran a red light after she was supposed to be dead, meaning the official time of death is wrong. It could be argued that the awkward interactions with Duncan are also plot-related.
Story quality: 3/5
Weevil's grandmother gets arrested for committing credit card fraud against the Echolls. Everyone knows it wasn't really her; everyone but Veronica thinks it was Weevil. It's the beginning of Weevil and Veronica working on the same side. It also features the AMAZING good cop/bad cop scene with Veronica and Keith in the Neptune Grand.
Unfortunately, this episode also introduces love interest Troy (a gross pickup artist prototype who isn't even very attractive and yet we're supposed to find him charming) which costs it some points. And the plot revolves around guest star Paris Hilton, who manages to be both iconic and cringe simultaneously, so that's a wash.
Iconic lines/memes: +4
Everything Paris Hilton says
Troy: Flat? Veronica: Just as God made me.
I suffer from too much pep. I needed a pep outlet.
It's easier being good cop than it is bad cop.
Cringe: -6
Everything Paris Hilton says
Give us a smile, love. Don't fucking tell women to smile, dickhead.
Are you always this persnickety? More negging.
I mean really, who names their daughter Trampy McBitch? Veronica laughs at this for some reason.
Chivalry not dead, good to know. Being helpful is not chivalry, Duncan.
When sexy, sassy girls can't come to a shindig of mine, maybe it's time for all parties involved to stand up and say maybe I was a little bit wrong, or sorry. This is not a good reason to say you're wrong or sorry. Fortunately Veronica realizes this in time.
Outfit of the episode

Pink polo shirt with a green striped sweater vest over it, a camo miniskirt, and to top it all off, a square little billed cap that's army green in the front and camo in the back. This is possibly the most iconic/ridiculous 2000s look of the whole show.
Song of the episode
Troubled Times by Fountain of Wayne. This is the song that Lilly liked, according to Duncan, and indeed it's playing on the car radio in the flashback of Lilly warning Veronica to watch out for Celeste.
Anachronistic reference of the episode
Sassy magazine - Lilly makes a joke about Sassy magazine saying that "girls who join clubs get all the fellas." Sassy magazine was published between 1988 and 1996, meaning that Lilly probably wasn't reading it in 2003, unless she had some kind of historical interest.
